Doughty Center for Corporate Responsibility
Established in 2006
Number of Faculty Staff: 3
Web Address: http://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/research/centers/ccr/
Description: The Center was made possible by a personal donation of £3m from Nigel Doughty - a Cranfield alumnus. The aim is to establish a leading European Center for the research, teaching, and practice of all aspects of Responsible Business. The Doughty Center aims to develop and then promote through teaching and practice, a distinctive "Cranfield take" on how to integrate Corporate Responsibility as a part of successful management practice. The assumption is that Corporate Responsibility cannot be a bolt-on to business operations but must be built in to business purpose and strategy. If it is embedded, it should produce shared value: opportunities for the business and positive environmental and social impacts.
The Doughty Center is coordinating a major research project with colleagues from a number of other leading European business schools on behalf of EABIS and of one of the Laboratories of the European CSR Alliance. The research focuses on what will persuade mainstream investors to take environmental, social and governance performance more into their valuations of businesses.

International Center for Women Leaders
Established in 1999
Number of Faculty Staff: 15
Web Address: http://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/research/centers/cdwbl/index.asp
Description: The International Center for Women Leaders is committed to helping organizations develop the next generation of leaders from the widest possible pool of talent. It is unique in focusing its research, management development, and writing on gender diversity at the leadership level. Its Female FTSE work is endorsed at the highest level of government.
It is widely recognized that there is a gender imbalance at senior management/leadership level. The Center aims first to understand the issues facing senior women managers, and second the impact of organizational and personal factors on women's managerial careers. Research findings then inform the Center's management development activities. The objectives of the Center are to:
- Lead the national debate on gender diversity and corporate boards.
- Deliver the trailblazing program "Women as Leaders".
- Provide a center of excellence on women leaders, from which organizations can obtain the latest trends, up-to-date research, and benchmark best practice.
- Identify and examine emergent issues in gender diversity and leadership, through sponsored research in partnership with the industry, government and other organizations - eg our leading edge Female FTSE Index and our study of the link between flexible working and performance with working families.
- Share academic research findings globally through conferences, workshops, and academic articles.
- Contribute to the wider community.
