Description of MBA Program:

By taking a holistic approach to business education, students in the Maine Business School will learn  approaches to business strategy and management that will prepare them to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. In the MBS MBA program, especially in the Business & sustainability track, students are challenged to confront social, environmental and business issues in an integrated way;blending economic development with   elements of business management, environmental protection and social equity, along with traditional core business classes. That’s the new “triple bottom line” for business and we’re addressing it at the University of Maine.

How does the MBA program 'walk the talk' of social and environmental impact?:

The University of Maine is dedicated to policies of environmental responsibility and reducing their carbon footprint.  This is demonstrated by investments in Leeds certified buildings, exploration of alternative energies on campus, aggressive recycling and energy conservation initiatives. In addition, approximately 30% of the faculty at the University of Maine are working on sustainability and environmental research.  The climate change institute for example, http://climatechange.umaine.edu/, is "an interdisciplinary research unit organized to conduct research and graduate education focused on variability of Earth's climate, ecosystems, and other environmental systems and on the interaction between humans and the natural world."  In the Business School, many of our faculty are researching the impact of business on sustainability and the environment. Our MBA track in Business & Sustainability focuses on the triple bottom line, educating our future business people on the roles and responsibilities that businesses play in this area.
