At the heart of our institute’s approach is our mission to influence the practice here and now and to promote value-based growth. Our endeavor is to ensure that the experience with the institute is a significant value addition to an individual’s career -- indeed his or her entire life. This calls for resolving three contradictions that we believe we have successfully addressed:
a. A synthesis of western values of efficiency - a concern for ends and eastern values and ethos - with an equal concern for means
b. Co-existence of collaborative and competitive models - striving for individual excellence and yet reinforcing the ‘group’ culture through daily activities
c. Commitment to material advancement, with sensitivity to distributive justice
Our selection process to a large extent depends on the softer skill of a person and not merely on their IQ. To us, while a sharp mind is important, more so is a curious and sensitive individual backed by rich values and integrity.
The already strong values that the candidates bring is further reinforced by our pedagogy where non-classroom learning is as important as the classroom.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is rated among the top ten B-schools in the country. The guiding philosophy of SPJIMR is influencing practice and promoting value based growth. The institute has an enviable track record of recognizing the needs of society and quickly and aptly responding with relevant programmes. More than a decade ago, we were looking for activities to enhance our academic strength and contribute towards development of the Society.
The Centre for Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) is an attempt by SPJIMR to establish a symbiotic relationship between management participants and the society of which they are all potential participants and partners. DOCC stands for instilling respect for values in future managers and allowing them to contribute to the efficiency, effectiveness and structure of NGOs by lending their management learnings. Participants at SPJIMR are required to undertake a six-week project that will provide him/her an opportunity to sensitize to rural issues, operate in an unstructured setting and realize the universality of management discipline. For the last decade, SPIMR participants have worked on more than 1200 projects with Corporate, Government, NGOs and International Agencies across the country.
The emphasis of every social project will be to explore, document, develop/modify and adopt multiple approaches to address operational as well as strategic issues/problems, with a view to achieve program goals more efficiently and deliver higher level of value to the community. Our objective is to show the way by which business in India could relate to rural society on one hand and to the global economy on the other. It will attempt to provide framework to address developmental issues by taking help from different organizational methodology and effective managerial tools.
The DOCC project is scheduled from 17th March 2011 to 28th April 2011; the brochure with brief details about the program of the Centre is enclosed for your reference.

Regardless of the service you offer or the business you operate in, tangible identity and a strong brand is essential. It supports organization in building a sound and long lasting relationship with stakeholders. Most people believe that not-for-profit organisations have to work very differently from for-profit organisations. However the only difference is that For-profit organisations earn a high “return on investment” and Not-for-profit organisations get their reward from a “high return on social investment” by making our world a fairer place to live in.
This workshop shows how NGO Brands can become self-sustainable.

Uddyam is the annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship event of S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research that aims to be an enterprise building exercise and serve as a platform for commercialization of innovations.
Uddyam ’10 will be conducted in association with Technopreneur Promotion Program (TePP) of the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India). A pioneer in promoting technology based innovations, TePP has helped many innovators patent their prototypes over the past few years. Though many of them have the potential to become successful ventures, there is a huge divide between the innovators who make these products, the entrepreneurs who can take them to the markets and investors who can provide the funding.
At Uddyam, we aim to bridge the gap between the innovators, entrepreneurs and investors. We present to you validated TePP innovations and you prepare ‘Innovation-plans’ and tell us how you think these innovations can be commercialized. The top six ‘I-plans’ will be selected and presented in front of an esteemed panel of judges and also interested entrepreneurs and investors. At Uddyam, we provide the right ecosystem for enterprise building!

As a part of 'non classroom' pedagogic innovation, the movie The Informant was used as a visual case study to learn “Ethics in Business”.
The Informant (starring Matt Damon), based on New York Times investigative reporter Kurt Eichenwald's book of the same name, deals with the greatest fraud in price fixing by a 100 year oldUS company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), the global giant food processing company. Their products can be read in fine print on the packaging of all processed food. Mark Whitacre, a Ph.D fromCornell, and senior Vice- President decides to help FBI record evidence of the price fixing game by becoming an 'Informant'. The movie gives a feel of human compulsions and stress, under which ordinary people like us,make unusual choices.
What was of greater interest to the participants was the fact that post imprisonment, Mark Whitacarewas hired by Cyprus Systems in a senior position and made COO recently. When contacted, Mark offered to answer the participants' queries on ethical issues in business. The effort initiated by the ADMAP committee, was well received by all the participants who attended the movie at PVR Juhu on November 11, 2009. It was a unique learning experience for the PGDM batch.
