Students benefit from this course by developing communication and public speaking skills, but also to develop arguments for socially responsible issues as they are challenged to select and debate challenging topics. During the seven weeks, the student will: Learn communication skills for authentic leadership and to affect change; Craft and deliver effective, persuasive speeches; Build critical listening and peer coaching skills; and Gain confidence as a public speaker. To be effective change agents in the corporate responsibility and social impact space, students need to learn to be effective communicators in a variety of different settings. For instance, one student persuaded others in her group to donate over $200 for a worthy cause as a result of her prepared speech. Students are often encouraged to volunteer time to community organizations or to take action as a result of the speeches in this course.
